In some of the application in industries, need of increasing and decreasing the speed using VFD drive through a single control panel using the push of Buttons is required. One of the best example of such machine is sheet laminating machine where operator can simply increase/decrease the speed using buttons. In Omron JX drive this function can be performed with ease through parameter of the drive. Here we are not talking of MODBUS communication and will use input from terminal. Below are the important parameters which need to be set in Omron JX drive to use increasing and decreasing Speed feature using Buttons.
1. A001: Frequency reference selection:
In this parameter select 02 to use Digital operator as the input source for frequency. By default this is set to 00 (Digital Operator- Freq. Adjuster).
2. A002: Run Command Selection:
By default this is set to 02 for digital operator. Select 01 for terminal mode. By selecting this parameter, you will only able to give run command through control panel or terminal buttons.
3. C001: Multi-function input 1 selection: UP
This is the parameter which lets you use first input button, say Start button as increase button. By default this parameter value is set to 00 for Forward (FW). Change this value to 27 which will increase the frequency.
4. C002: Multi-function input 2 selection: DOWN
By default this parameter is set to 01 for reverse (REV) and we have to select 28 which will decrease the frequency. This feature is applicable while the machine is in RUN mode.
Notes the below points while using C001 and C002 parameters:
1. While the UP/DWN terminal is turned on, the acceleration/deceleration time depends on F002, F003/F202, and F203.
2. You can store a frequency set value after UP/DWN adjustment. Choose whether to store the value with C101.
3. Also, you can clear the stored frequency set value by allocating 29 (UDC) to the desired multifunction input and turning on/off the UDC terminal.
4. The UP/DOWN function is disabled when the JG operation is enabled.
5. The UP/DOWN function is enabled when the frequency reference selection (A001) is set to the Digital Operator (02).
6. The UP/DOWN function is enabled when the multi-step speed reference is enabled.
After setting the above parameter you can test this by using Start and Stop buttons. Use start button for increase and stop button for decrease. Now press and hold the increase button to increase the speed and release the button to hold the speed to that point and do same for decreasing the speed. Baldor DC Drive - BC140 Operation/Running Procedure
We have discussed much about the baldor servo drives and motion controller in our earlier articles. Today we will see the operation and installation procedure of Baldor BC140-FBR DC Drive. Baldor DC drive are very popular for the conveyor and material handling applications. BC140 supports multi - horse power motor and can be used to run the DC Motor of ratings from 1/100 to 2 HP.BC140-FBR can be operated on both AC115 and AC230V , so dual voltage operation is also possible. We will try to cover all necessary points to install and commission the BC140 -FBR DC Drive.
Features of Baldor BC140- FBR DC Drive :-
Let us quickly discuss the features which BC140 has got. Full wave SCR control is possible with the help of freewheeling diode. This drive can be used with both shunt wound DC Motor and permanent magnet type DC motor. Aslo it has got 5K pot for the speed regulation. It has got trimpot for max speed , min speed and accel/decel and IR and CR trimpot. The rpm is 250 and provide full torque at zero speed also.
How to Install/Commission BC-140 FBR DC Drive :-
Well we will discuss some quick points in order to make a BC140 drive operational. Let us note one point that this drive has the feature of supporting the motor of ratings from 1/100 Hp to 2HP. So accordingly to the motor selected we have to put a proper Horsepower plug in resistor inside the drive. The rating of the resistor for BC140 drive is calculated according to the motor HP and input supply voltage we intend to connect to drive. We will see the ratings of Horsepower resistor for different motor ratings below.
Step by Step Procedure to Run BC-140 FBR DC Drive :-
1.First of all , set the Dual supply voltage on the fron side of the drive to the proper ac supply voltage , i.e if the input supply connected is 115 then set the switch to 115 and if input ac supply is 230 then set the switch to 230V.
2. Open the front cover of the drive and plug-in the proper horsepower resistor.
3. Install the correct line and armature fuses.
Connect the motor armature and field wires. See the below diagram for the connection procedure and ratings of the fuse.

The below is the table for the selection of the Plugin horsepower resistor , you have to install the proper and the correct value of resistor in BC-140 drive , otherwise the desired efficiency will not be achieved.
After doing all the three steps as told above , just power on the drive and turn the speed pot slowly from minimum to maximum , and see the motor operation. The motor rpm will increase slowly when you turn the speed knob from minimum to maximum. If you wish to change the acceleration or deceleration time then this can be done with the help of the trimpots provided on the drive.

Steps to be followed :-
1. Connect the USB cable to your computer and plug the other side to the USB to 485 Converter.
2. Set the USB Converter Switches for RS485 2-Wire Connection.
3. Wire from the Converter to the drive inputs C- and C+ making sure that the polarity of wires matches.
4. Wire from the GND on the Converter to the CM on the drive terminal.

Making Program in Delta C200 Inverter VFD

Sample Speed Control Program Application of C2000 :-
The programming of C2000 can be done by WPLSoft software , we will here see the simple multi speed application of C2000 and its programming. We will design a logic for 5 multi speed for C2000 and the speed will change periodically depending upon the time defined in the timer.
To make this logic just open the WPLSoft software and make a new project and select the PLC Model as VFD-C. M1040 is for Power on and M1025 is for RUN issuing command, so we have to set these two bits before giving the Frequency.
In this Program we are taking three multi speed and the each speed will change after the time defined in respective D Word. And after the third speed the first speed will resume and the process will go on.
